Convening the Virtual Workshop on Upgrading the HRM Practices: Modernizing the Recruitment, Selection and Training Systems Among ASEAN Countries

The Union Civil Service Board (UCSB) in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat convened Virtual Workshop on Upgrading the HRM Practices: Modernizing the Recruitment, Selection and Training Systems Among ASEAN Countries on 26th September, 2024 at 8:00 am at the office No. (17) of the Union Civil Service Board in Nay Pyi Taw through Virtual Platform.

The virtual workshop has been conducted as one of the activities under the ASEAN Cooperation on Civil Service Matters-ACCSM Work Plan (2021-2025). The workshop aims to identify the current gaps and challenges in the recruitment, selection and training systems; to learn, understand how to make them more effective and efficient; to document recommendations and ways forward on Digital Platform and to share and co-create the effectiveness of the HRM practices among the organizations. This project would make Human Resource Management System more modern, efficient, transparent and inclusive fostering innovation.

At the workshop, Chairman of the Union Civil Service Board, H.E. U Aung Thaw, Members of the Board, H.E. U San Myint, H.E. Thura U Bo Ni and H.E. U Kyaw Myo Htut, senior officials from concerned Ministries and Organizations, the Union Civil Service Board, representatives from the organizations of ASEAN countries related to the role of ASEAN Cooperation on Civil Service Matters (ACCSM), ACCSM Sectoral Bodies and ASEAN Secretariat, totally (80) participants attended the workshop.

At the workshop, welcoming remarks was delivered by H.E. U Aung Thaw, Chairman of the Union Civil Service Board. According to the agenda, overview upon the importance of modernizing HRM practices in recruitment and selection was conducted by  Daw Nan Phyu Phyu Pwint as Moderator, Director of the Civil Service Selection and Training Department under the UCSB, individual presentations for sharing experiences and best practices among ASEAN Member States on Exploring the current challenges and trends in HRM practices for recruitment and selection by the discussants from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and the Philippines. It was followed by recap session on presentation points from AMS by moderator.

In the afternoon session, overview upon the importance of modernizing HRM practices in training was conducted by U Tin Soe as Moderator, Professor of the Civil Service Academy (Upper Myanmar) under the UCSB, individual presentations for sharing experiences and best practices among ASEAN Member States on Exploring the current challenges and trends in HRM practices for training by the delegates of Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam. It was followed by recap session summed up on presentation points from AMS by moderator. Breakout group discussion was also conducted and wrap-up session was followed with key takeaways provided by H.E. U Kyaw Myo Htut, Member of the UCSB. The virtual workshop has been concluded with the closing remarks by H.E. U Aung Thaw, Chairman of the Union Civil Service Board.
